Rayyan Israr's Story

When your child is born with complications, love isn’t your first instinct, it’s fear. UCSF Benioff Chil-dren’s Hospital Oakland took away that fear and turned it into love. A nine month NICU stay and 15 OR visits have changed us for the better. Hope, love and compassion were things I experienced every  day that we walked through those doors. They didn’t treat my son like he was just one of the many  patients on that unit, they treated us like we were the only ones there. That is how much compassion and attention to detail was present in the room. On day one when my son was born I wasn’t sure he  would survive his first 24 hours let alone his first surgery. Three years later,  here he is beating every  odd with a huge smile on his face and love in his heart.
